Letters. 1791.

Letter signed by the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Montmorin enclosing copies of 2 letters (4 pp.) by M. de la Luzerne about the English settlement at Botany Bay. Luzerne comments that 3 ships left Portsmouth on 21 March 1791 and 5 ships left Portsmouth again on 25 March to transport 2000 criminals to Botany Bay under the escort of the ship Gorgon. The expedition was also accompanied by troops for the colony. The final page notes that the attached letters give exact costs including wages of several buildings enacted in the colony but the detailed document is not included.
